Portage South Finishes Runner-up at Wood Bat Classic

For the second straight year, Portage South made the Wood Bat Classic finals and lost.  In pool play, PS first would play the Kent Knights.  The Black Squirrels put this game away early as they got 5 runs in the first and 4 more in the second then went on to win 13-2.  Jesse Michel went 3-3 with a double and 3 runs.  Matt Smith was 3-4 with 2 2Bs and 3 RBI.  Mike Haney was 2-3 with a 3-run HR and 4 RBI.  Ben Nied went the distance for the win.  Game two of pool play had the Metro Ice meet PS.  Metro Ice got a run in the first then 3 runs in the second and 3 more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.  PS would get on the board in the fifth when Robert Paradise doubled and scored on a Jesse Michel single.  The final game of pool play had Portage South against Bomb Squad Knights.  This game went back and forth, as PS scored 4 runs in the second and another run in the third for a 5-0 lead.  The Knights came back with 2 runs in the fourth and 3 more in the fifth to tie it at 5-5.  PS would score 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth and held the Knights off for the 9-5 win.  Jesse Michel was 2-4 with a 2B and 3 RBI.  Kevin Haley threw all seven innings striking out 6 batters in the win.

In the tournament, Portage South would draw Tallmadge Knights in the first game.  PS got 3 runs in the third inning to take the early lead.  The Knights would come back with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to make it 3-2.  Portage South would tack on an insurance run in the sixth and win 4-2.  Kevin Haley was 2-2 with a double and 2 RBI.  Matt Smith was also 2-3 with a double for PS.  Walt Samson went 7 innings, allowing 1 earned run and striking out 5 in the win.

In the semi-final game, Portage South would meet the Pioneer Financial A's.  Portage South got out of the gates quick with a 4-run first inning.  Kevin Yelinek singled and walks to Danny Campfield and Ron Spears would load the bases.  Mike Haney would score 2 with a double and Matt Smith followed with a single that scored Spears and Haney.  Haney would homer in the third to give PS a 5-0 lead, but the A's scored 2 to cut it to 5-2.  Portage South would score 3 more in the fifth to make it 8-2.  The A's would get 2 back in the sixth, but PS plated 4 more in the seventh and won 12-4.  Haney was 3-4 with 2B, HR and 4 RBI.  Smith was 3-3 with 2 RBI and Yelinek was 3-5 with 2 runs and a RBI to lead Portage South.  Nic Carucci threw 6 innings, striking out 8, for the victory.

In the championship game, Portage South would meet Bomb Squad Knights again.  This game was scheduled for 9 innings and for the first 7 1/2 innings the game was scoreless.  In the bottom of the 8th inning, Kyle Campfield walked and stole second base.  He scored on a Mike Darrah single.  Darrah would steal second and score on Jesse Michel's single.  The Knights were able to score 3 runs in the top of the ninth and PS could not get a run across in the bottom half as the final was 3-2 Knights.  Walt Samson threw 9 innings in the loss, striking out 10 batters.  Darrah led the offense with a RBI and run scored.

Portage South Goes 2-2 in AA Tournament

Portage South entered the AA League Tournament as the 4 seed.  They were matched up with the Pioneer Financial A's in the first round.  This game was a pitcher's duel with neither team scoring through the first 8 innings.  The A's were able to push across a run after a controversial safe call at first base, that would have ended the inning, allowed a runner to score from third.  This would be the only run of the game as PS lost 1-0 in 9 innings.  Walt Samson went all 9 innings on the mound in the loss for Portage South, allowing six hits and striking out 6.  Jason Preising went 2-3 to lead the offense.

In the consolation bracket, PS would play Canton Crew.  The Black Squirrels score a run in the first inning when Kevin Yelinek walked and scored on Mike Darrah's double.  PS would get 5 runs in the second to push the lead to 6-0.  Robert Paradise doubled and scored on a Jesse Michel double.  Michel would score on another Darrah double.  After walks to Ron Spears and Brandon Caipen loaded the bases, Mike Haney doubled to clear the bases.  Portage South would get another run in the fifth on another Paradise double that scored Kevin Haley.  The Crew scored a run in the seventh, but PS won 7-1.  Paradise was 3-3 with 2 2B and a RBI.  Darrah was 2-3 with 2 2B and 2 RBI.

Next, Portage South would play Whitey's Wolf Pack.  PS got on top early with 3 runs in the first inning.  Kevin Yelinek singled to start the inning for the Black Squirrels.  Jesse Michel doubled to score Yelinek.  Danny Campfield would single and score, along with Michel on Mike Haney's double.  Portage South got 4 more runs in the third and that is all they would need as they won 7-0.  Yelinek went 2-2 for PS.  Ron Spears and Haney were also 2-3 for the Black Squirrels.

In the consolation semi-finals, PS would face Akron Braves.  The Braves scored 2 in the first for the early lead.  PS got a run back in the second when Jason Preising was hit by a pitch and scored on a bases loaded walk to Danny Campfield.  The Braves would score 2 runs in the third and fifth, then add on a run in the sixth for a 7-1 lead.  Portage South got 2 runs in the 7th, but lost 7-3. 

Portage South Drops 2 Non-league Game to End Regular Season

Portage South had 2 non-league contest prior to the start of the league tournament.  In the first one, PS traveled to Westlake for a game with the Ohio Titans.  This was a tough one for Portage South as the Titans scored 6 runs in the first and never looked back as they won 13-1.  Kevin Yelinek went 2-3 with a double.  Robert Paradise made is first start on the mound in a few years and seemed to be a bit rusty.

The second non-league game was against the Canton Stallions at West Branch HS.  This was a close game all the way through as the Stallions edged Portage South 2-1.  Kevin Haley went the distance on the mound, allowing just 5 hits and 2 runs while striking out 7 in the loss.  Mike Haney went 2-3 with a double and RBI.  Danny Campfield was 1-3 and scored the only run.

PS Splits Doubleheader with Admirals

Portage South Black Squirrels dropped game one of the doubleheader with the Admirals, but took game 2 to earn the weekend split and end league play with a 17-7 record.  In game one, the Admirals scored 2 in the first.  PS cut the lead in half in the second with a run in the frame.  Kyle Campfield doubled and scored on a Mike Haney single.  The Admirals would score 6 in the fourth and put the game away.  They would tack on 4 more in the sixth to make the final 12-1.  Haney was 2-2 with a double and a RBI.

In game 2, the Admirals once again took the early lead with 2 runs in the first, but the Black Squirrels came back with 4 runs in the second to take the lead.  Danny Campfield singled, followed by a walk by Mike Haney and single by Kyle Campfield to load the bases.  Luke Hamilton singled to right scoring Danny Campfield and Haney.  Kevin Yelinek and Jesse Michel each had singles to score Kyle Campfield and Hamilton.  Portage South would score 3 more runs in the fourth to make it a 7-2 game.  Hamilton singled and scored on a Michel double.  Mike Darrah reached on an error and score along with Michel on another error in the inning.  The Admirals would close to within 7-4 in the fifth, but PS would get another run in the fifth and the sixth bringing the score to 9-4.  In the seventh, Portage South definitely put the game away with a 6 run inning.  Hamilton and Yelinek singled and both scored on Michel's double.  Ron Spears and Danny Campfield would each single driving in a run, then Jason Preising doubled home 2 runs to make it 15-4.  The Admirals scored 2 in the bottom of the seventh, but came up short 15-6.  Hamilton was 4-4 with 3 RBI to lead PS.  Michel was 3-5 with 2 2B and 4 RBI and Spears was 2-5 with 3 RBI.  Adam Samson went 4 innings for the win, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.

Portage South Offense the Story in 10-5 Win Over the Dream

Portage South pounded out 12 hits to go along with 7 walks and a hit batsman in a 10-5 victory.  Kevin Yelinek started the game with single and scored on Mike Darrah's double for a 1-0 lead.  The Dream came back with a run in the second inning, but PS pushed 5 more across in the bottom half for a 6-1 lead after two.  Brandon Caipen and Matt Smith both reached on walks and were able to score on a throwing error.  Jesse Michel doubled to score Yelinek.  Michel would score on Darrah's homerun.  The Dream scored a run in the fourth to make it 6-2.  In the fourth, PS scored a run when Darrah singled and scored on a Kyle Campfield single.  Portage South would add another run in the fifth on a triple by Yelinek that scored Matt Smith.  Akron got a run in the sixth and 2 in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as PS won 10-5.  Portage South got their last 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Ron Spears walked and Danny Campfield doubled to score him.  Caipen singled to score Campfield.  Eric Schaffer went 5 innings for the win, his second of the week, striking out 6 and allowing 2 runs (1 earned).  Darrah was 3-4 with a 2B, HR and 3 RBI.  Yelinek also went 2-4 with a 3B and a RBI for PS. 

Win Over the Gamecocks Makes it 4 in a Row

Portage South was playing their 4th game in 4 days when they faced the Gamecocks.  PS scored the first run of the game in the second inning.  Kyle Campfield doubled and scored when the pitcher threw the pickoff attempt away.  Portage South was able to open the lead in the fourth inning with 4 runs in the frame.  Ron Spears singled to start the inning.  Campfield walked and Brandon Caipen singled to load the bases.  Jason Preising doubled to score Spears and Campfield.  A single by Kevin Yelinek scored Caipen and Preising to make it 5-0.  Walt Samson threw a complete game shutout, allowing 7 hits and striking out 5 in the win.  Preising and Yelinek were each 1-3 with 2 RBI.

Portage South Picks Up First Win Over Canton Stallions

In the fifth meeting ever between these teams, Portage South finally picked up a win.  Portage South was able to get 4 runs in the first inning and never look back in an 8-2 win.  PS pounded out 12 hits in this one lead by 3 players with 2 hits each.  Ron Spears went 2-3 with a 2B, 2 R and 2 RBI.  Kevin Yelinek was also 2-3 with a R and a RBI.  Kevin Carney added 2 hits and 2 RBI in this one.  Matt Smith started the game on the mound, going 1 2/3 innings before being hit in the knee with a line drive.  Eric Schaffer threw the next 3 1/3 innings, allowing just 1 R and 2 hits to earn the victory.

Portage South Sweeps Canton Crew

Portage South matched up in a doubleheader with the Canton Crew at Erie Island.  PS jumped out to the early lead in game one with 2 runs in the top of the first inning.  Kevin Yelinek walked and Jesse Michel was hit by a pitch to start the game.  Mike Darrah singled and a throwing error allowed Yelinek to score on the play.  Michel scored on a Ron Spears sacrifice fly.  Portage South would get another run in the third when Yelinek would single and score on Spears single.  In the fourth, PS would push across 3 more runs to stretch the lead to 6-0.  Josh Simmons doubled and was followed by a Luke Hamilton double that would score Simmons.  Yelinek would double and score Hamilton.  Portage South would also score on a bobble by the outfielder in the inning.  PS tacked on 1 run in the sixth and 2 more in the 7th.  Hamilton would double in the seventh and score on a Matt Smith single.  Smith would then score on a Darrah single.  Adam Samson went 7 innings for the win, allowing 1 R and 5 hits while striking out seven.  Hamilton was 2-4 with 2 2B and a RBI.  Darrah was 3-5 with 2 RBI.  Spears also went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

In game two, Portage South came out scoring a run in the second.  Ron Spears walked and scored on a Luke Hamilton sacrifice fly.  In the third, PS would get another run when Matt Smith would walk and score on a Spears single.  Portage South opened up the game in the fifth with a 3 run inning, making it 5-0.  Hamilton would walk followed by a Smith single and a Robert Paradise walk.  Mike Darrah hit a bases clearing double to give PS the five run advantage.  The Crew would get a run back in the top of the fifth, but Portage South pushed across 6 more runs in the bottom half to win the game 11-1.  The big hits in the inning were a Smith 2-run single and another bases clearing double by Darrah.  Kevin Haley allowed only 5 hits and struck out 10 in a complete game victory.  Darrah was 2-3 with 2 2B and 6 RBI.  Smith was 2-2 with 3 R and 2 RBI.

Early Mistakes Cost Portage South Against Irish

Fielding miscues surrounded by a few timely hits in the first inning allow the Irish to score all 4 of their runs.  Portage South chipped away at the hole they had dug themselves, but fell short in a 4-2 loss.  Kevin Haley was 2-2 with a double and a sacrifice bunt to lead the offense.  Brad Thomas went the distance allowing just the 4 unearned runs in the first and struck out seven.

Portage South Tops the Akron Dreams

Portage South played game one of 2 makeup games schedule with the Akron Dreams.  PS scored first with a run in the third inning.  Kevin Yelinek leadoff the inning with a double and scored on an error in the inning.  In the fourth, Portage South would push 3 more runs across.  Kevin Carney started the inning with a single.  Carney would score on a single by Yelinek and a Jesse Michel single scored Yelinek.  Mike Darrah would follow with a double and Ron Spears' sacrifice fly plated Michel.  PS would add one more run in the sixth and win 5-0.  Robert Paradise would walk and advance to second on a single by Michel.  Paradise scored on a single by Darrah.  Kevin Haley started and went 2 innings and Adam Samson went the final 5 innings for the win.  Samson allowed 1 hit and 0 runs while striking out 8.

PS Splits with Horned Frogs Over the Weekend

In a battle for 3rd place in the American Division, Portage South matched up with the Akron Horned Frogs in a doubleheader.  In game one, PS got on the board early with 2 runs in the first inning.  Pat Smith singled and scored on Mike Darrah's triple.  Ron Spears followed with a double to score Darrah.  The Horned Frogs would take the lead in the fourth, scoring 3 runs in the inning.  It would stay 3-2 until the bottom of the seventh.  Kevin Carney would single with 2 outs and Pat Smith walked.  Jesse Michel would then double to score both runners for the win.  Walt Samson went the distance for the win on the mound, allowing 3 runs and 5 hits while striking out 3.  Pat Smith went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

Game 2 had the Horned Frogs get out to the lead with 3 runs in the third.  Portage South would take the lead in the fifth with a 4 run inning of their own.  Ron Spears walked followed by singles from Kevin Yelinek and Kevin CarneyKevin Haley would single to score Spears and Yelinek.  Carney and Haley were plated by a double off the bat of Pat Smith.  It would remain 4-3 PS until the bottom of the sixth when the Horned Frogs pushed across 5 runs.  Haley went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI.  Yelinek was also 2-3 in the game.

Portage South Shuts Out Ruckus

The Portage South Black Squirrels came back after the July 4th break and handed the Ruckus an 8-0 loss.  PS got a run in the first when Jesse Michel walked, followed by a single by Danny Campfield.  Michel would score on a Kyle Campfield single.  In the second, Portage South pushed 3 more runs across.  Kevin Carney and Robert Paradise each singled and scored on a Kevin Yelinek double.  Yelinek would then score on a Michel single to make it 4-0.  That would remain the score until the 5th inning when PS posted a 4-run inning.  Danny Campfield and Ron Spears singled to start the inning and Kyle Campfield would reach on a fielder's choice.  Pat Smith had a single with one out scoring 2 runs in the inning.  Kevin Haley allowed no runs and 2 hits over 7 innings while striking out eight.  Pat Smith was 2-3 with a run and 2 RBI to lead Portage South.

Late Surge Pushes PS to Victory Over Rebels

Portage South faced the Rebels in their last game before the July 4th break.  The Rebels got on the board with a run in the first inning.  They scored 2 more runs in the third to make it 3-0.  In the bottom half of the third, PS finally broke through with 2 runs.  Kevin Haley walked and stole second base.  Haley then scored on Jesse Michel's double.  Michel would advance to 3rd on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Campfield that was misplayed in the outfield.  The Black Squirrels would tie the game at 3-3 with a run in the fourth inning.  Josh Simmons walked and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Jason Preising.  Haley would follow with a double that scored Simmons.  The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when PS finally broke the game open with a 4-run frame.  Kyle Campfield doubled to start the inning.  Simmons reached base on a dropped third strike.  Both would score without a ball being put in play.  Campfield scored on a double steal and Simmons crossed the plate after a wild pitch.  After walks to Haley and Brandon Caipen, Michel singled up the middle to score both runners.  Michel was 2-4 with a 2B and 3 RBI.  Danny Campfield was 2-3 with a RBI.  Walt Samson went the distance for the win, striking out 11 batters.

Portage South Split with Akron Lasiks

Portage South and Akron Lasiks met on Saturday in a doubleheader at Kent Roosevelt High School.  In game one, the PS bats remained cold as they were shut out by Nic Carucci (14 Ks) on just 5 hits.  Kevin Yelinek was the lone offensive star for the Black Squirrels, going 3-3 with 2 2Bs.  PS lost 5-0 to snap their winning streak at 5 games.

In game two, PS fell behind early as the Lasiks scored in the first inning to make it 1-0.  In the third inning, Portage South scored 2 runs to take the lead.  Jason Preising was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin HaleyMike Darrah reached by HBP and Jesse Michel singled to load the bases.  Danny Campfield's 2-out single to left scored Preising and Darrah.  Akron would tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third and it would remain tied into the eighth inning.  In the top of the eighth, Jimmy Jamieson was hit by a pitch and stole second base.  He would score on Danny Campfield's double to make it 3-2 Portage South.  Cam Hayes threw a scoreless eighth to pick up the save.  Brad Thomas went 7 innings for the win, allowing just 6 hits and striking out 7.  Danny Campfield was 2-3 with a 2B and 2 RBI.

Win Over the Knights Makes it 5 in a Row for Portage South

PS came into Sisler Field as winners of 4 straight games to take on the Tallmadge Knights.  Pitching was at a premium in this contest with just 5 hits total between both teams.  The game was scoreless through 3 innings.  In the fourth, Portage South got on the board.  Danny Campfield singled to start the inning.  After a walk to Kyle Campfield, Kevin Yelinek singled to load the bases.  Jason Preising's fielder's choice plated Danny Campfield for what was the only run of the game as PS won 1-0.  Walt Samson threw his first complete game of the season, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 5 for the win.  Danny Campfield and Yelinek had a single each to lead the offense.

PS Wins 3-2 in 8 Innings Over the Cardinals

Portage South took on the Ohio Cardinals at Patterson Park Wednesday.  The Cardinals took an early lead with a run in the second inning and increase the lead with another run in the third.  PS finally got on the board in the fourth when Josh Simmons doubled and was followed by a Jason Preising single.  The Black Squirrels would tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth.  Kyle Campfield would reach on fielder's choice, then stole second and third and scored on a Simmons single.  The game would stay tied until the eighth when Kyle Campfield led off the inning with a triple and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Yelinek.  Simmons led the offense, going 2-2 with a double and RBI.  Cam Hayes threw 2 innings in relief to pick up the win.  Kevin Haley threw six innings, striking out 10 in a no decision.

Sweep of Doubleheader Over Whitey's Gives PS 3 Wins in a Row
The Black Squirrels hosted Whitey's Wolf Pack on Sunday at Kent Roosevelt High School.  In game one, Whitey's would score first with a run in the third inning.  PS would come back to tie it with a run in the fourth.  Jesse Michel reached on an error to start the inning.  Mike Darrah would single and Ron Spears walked to load the bases.  Kyle Campfield would single to score Michel.  Portage South would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth with 2 runs in the frame, making it 3-1.  Spears and Kevin Yelinek walked.  Luke Hamilton,who was running for Spears, would score on a passed ball.  Mike Haney would single to score Yelinek.  Mike Price came in a threw a scoreless seventh for the save.  Adam Samson went 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and striking out 11 for the win.  Kyle Campfield was 1-2 with a RBI to lead PS.  Haney was 1-3 with a RBI.

In game two, Whitey's would once again score first to take the lead with a run in the second.  Portage South came back this time with 8 runs in the third.  Jason Preising singled followed by a Luke Hamilton walk.  Jimmy Jamieson triple to score both runners.  Pat Smith's single scored Jamieson.  Mike Darrah followed with a single and Danny Campfield's single scored Smith and Darrah.  Back-to-back doubles by Kyle Campfield and Kevin Yelinek scored another 2 runs.  Mike Haney and Josh Simmons each singled with Simmons' single scoring Yelinek.  The Wolf Pack would get a run in the 6th to make it 8-2, but Portage South tacked on 2 more runs in the seventh.  Kevin Carney doubled home Preising, who had reached on an error and Darrah's double scored Carney.  Whitey's would score one run in the bottom of the 7th to make the final score 10-3.  Yelinek went 2-2 with a 2B and a RBI.  Jamieson was 2-4 with a 3B and 2 RBI, while Darrah went 2-4 with a 2B and a RBI.  Brad Thomas went 6 innings for the win, striking out nine.

PS Bounces Back with Win Over Blaze
Portage South would bounce back after the two losses with an 11-1 victory over the West Akron Blaze.  PS got 3 runs in the first.  Brandon Caipen and Jesse Michel were both hit by a pitch to start the game.  Jimmy Jamieson would single to score Caipen.  Ron Spears sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third.  Kevin Yelinek would single to score Michel and Jamieson.  The Blaze got a run back in the second, but Portage South blew the game open in the third with 8 runs and would win 11-1 in five innings.  Walt Samson threw all five innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 5 in the victory.  Yelinek was 1-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored to lead PS.  Jamieson was also 1-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Portage South Drops 2 to the Braves
After winning their 2 previous games, Portage South would lose two games to the Akron Braves.  In game one, the Braves won 4-1.  Kyle Campfield led PS, going 2-3 with a 2B and RBI.  Brad Thomas made his first appearance of the year and went 5 innings, allowing 5 hits and striking out 6.  Game 2 had the Braves win 6-2.  Again, Kyle Campfield went 2-3 with a RBI and a run scored to lead the Black Squirrel offensive attack.

Black Squirrels Top the Gamecocks
Portage South would face the Ohio Gamecocks at Old Forge on a Wednesday night.  After scoring 1 run in the first inning, the Gamecocks were able to get 2 more for a 3-0 in the second.  PS would take advantage of walks and some fielding miscues to grab the lead in the bottom half of the second.  They were able to get 6 runs in the inning on only 2 hits to take a 6-3 advantage.  The Black Squirrels would score 2 more runs in the third and go up 8-3.  PS added one more insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Ron Spears singled to start the inning.  Josh Simmons singled with 2 outs and Jason Priesing walked to load the bases.  Cam Hayes singled to score Spears, making it 9-3.  The Gamecocks would get one more run in the sixth making the final score 9-4.  Kevin Yelinek was 2-4 with a RBI and run scored to lead PS.  Kevin Haley threw 5 innings for the win.

Portage South Splits Doubleheader to Start Season
The Portage South Black Squirrels opened the season with a doubleheader against the Pioneer Financial A's at Kent Roosevelt High School.  PS got on the board right away with 2 runs in the bottom of the first.  Kevin Yelinek singled to start the game.  Yelinek was advanced to second on a Kevin Haley groundout and scored on a single by Ron Spears.  Spears would later score on a Kyle Campfield single.  The A's cut the lead in half with a run in the second, then took the lead 3-2 with 2 more runs in the third.  A run in the top of the fourth made it 4-2 A's until Portage South tied the game with 2 runs in the fifth.  Jesse Michel doubled with 2 outs.  Kyle Campfield followed with a double that scored Michel and Campfield scored on an error.  The Black Squirrels would take the lead back with 3 runs in the sixth and make it 7-4.  Yelinek singled, then Haley would reach on a fielder's choice.  Jimmy Jamieson would single to score Yelinek and a sacrifice fly by Spears plated Haley.  Michel's RBI single scored Jamieson.  The A's were able to get 6 runs in the top of the seventh and win 10-7.  Michel was 3-3 with a 2B and a RBI.  Cam Hayes threw 2 2/3 innings allowing one run in relief.

In game 2, the game would remain scoreless until the top of the seventh inning.  With Portage South now being the away team, Josh Simmons started the inning with a single.  Luke Hamilton would follow with a sacrifice bunt that he was able to reach base on as the pitcher threw the ball away, allowing Simmons to score.  Kevin Yelinek would single to put runners at first and second.  Kevin Haley would sacrifice bunt to move the runner up to second and third.  Jimmy Jamieson followed with a single to score Hamilton and Ron Spear's single scored Yelinek.  Jesse Michel singled for his third hit of the game and plated Jamieson to make it 4-0.  Walt Samson and Adam Samson combined to shut out the A's.  Walt threw 5 innings, allowing just 4 hits while striking out 4.  Adam threw 2 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2 in his PS debut.  Michel was again 3-3 with a 2B and a RBI.
