Tough Finish in the League Tournament for PS
Portage South entered the league tournament as the #3 seed and would host the Ohio Eagles.
PS was able to hold the Eagles for a 3-1 win and advance to the second round. In the second round, the Black Squirrels
would face the #2 seed, South Akron Kraken. The Kraken won the game 3-1 and forced Portage South in the consolation
bracket. PS would face the strong offensive of the Akron Aces. The Black Squirrels bats were up to the test and
had an answer for all the Aces big innings. They got the win 14-13. Next up for the Squirrels was the Ohio Gamecocks.
This game was an instant classic with the game going 14 innings at 2 different fields. In a heroic effort, Mike Darrah
threw all 14 innings for PS. Unfortunately he took the 4-3 loss and Portage South would end its season a 16-10 record.
Portage South Came Back with a Strong 2015 Season
The Portage South Black Squirrels 2015 season had a solid start, winning 9 of their first
12 games with rain pushing most of the games to the final month of the season. PS finished 5-5 in the final 10 games,
but 9 of them were played in 8 days, to finish in 3rd place of the Elite Division. There were some strong individual
performances in 2015 by the Black Squirrels. Eric Schaffer threw, a career best, 45 innings with a 5-3 record and 40
strikeouts. Ron Spears led the offense hitting .382 with 26 hits, 6 doubles and 23 RBIs in 22 regular season games while
only committing 2 errors on defense. Rookie, Brady Haba, hit .328 with 19 hits and 19 stolen bases in his first season
in a PS uniform.
