Salinas and 5 Other Black Squirrels Earn League Honors

The Greater Akron AA League Awards were announced on Monday, November 21st with 6 Portage South Black Squirrels, once again, earning league all star honors.  The 5 individual league awards were also announced and Josh Salinas was named Frank Garcia League MVP.  Eric Schaffer was named Dave Young co-Pitcher of the Year along with Wes Kemp of the Ohio Gamecocks.  Ty Moorhead won the Dave Layton Tournament MVP award for the American Division of the Greater Akron AA League.  Justin Nelson was nominated for Frank Garcia League MVP and George Sisler Hitter of the Year.  Kevin Haley was also nominated for Dave Young Pitcher of the Year.  In addition to Salinas, Schaffer, Haley, Moorhead and Nelson, Matt Dile was named to the Greater Akron AA All Star team.

Portage South Announces 2022 Team Awards

With the 2022 season finished, the Portage South Black Squirrels announce the annual team awards. The PS MVP was presented to Josh Salinas. Salinas had 32 hits, 30 runs scored, 9 doubles, 3 triples, 19 runs batted in, and stole 16 bases. Salinas' .471 average was good enough also to earn the PS Stan Musial Batting Title. The PS Cy Young was awarded to Eric Schaffer. Schaffer went 10-0 in 11 appearances with a 1.71 ERA while throwing 57.1 innings. PS Golden Glove Award for the Black Squirrels was awarded to Lucius Ivory. The final award given out is known as the "Herb".  Lucius Ivory also took home the 2022 Herb.

Caruso Named 2nd Team All-Conference for the Second Spring in a Row

Black Squirrel, Jacob Caruso earns his second All-MSC Second Team honor on April 26th. Caruso ranked second in the conference in sacrifice fly's with five, carried a .361 average on 52 hits with 11 doubles, one home run, seven runs scored, and 42 rbi's. Behind the plate for the Saints, Caruso ranks third in the conference with runners caught stealing by catching 18 out of 37 runners.  Caruso was also named Academic All-Conference.
